Small-group local travel in New Zealand

New Zealand,
like a local.

Instead of hopping off a tour bus for one photo and hopping back on: coffee at a neighbourhood café, a walk along the beach, a barbecue back at the house. Your New Zealand citizen guide drives and shows you around like a friend.

Getting there

Fly at night,
arrive in the morning.

Board an evening flight from Incheon, sleep, and wake up to an Auckland morning. You fly almost due south, so the time difference is only 3–4 hours.

When should you go?

A different New Zealand
every season.

Seasons are the opposite of Korea’s. Even on the same course, what to enjoy and what to pack change with the season, so we adjust the itinerary to your month.

01

No forced shopping · no tips

No shopping-centre stops or tip requests. We use that time for one more walk by the lake.

02

Optional activities, announced early

Activities with extra costs are explained well before departure, and only those who want to join.

03

Eat where locals eat

Instead of group restaurants: places locals go, supermarket runs and barbecues we cook ourselves. Korean and Asian meals in between too.

How we travel

Not ticking off sights —
living there for a while.

We don’t miss the big sights, but we treasure the time between them. A flat white at a local café in the morning, beaches and forest walks by day, and dinner cooked together at the house with groceries from the supermarket.

Usually cheaper than big package tours — but not a ‘budget’ tour. We do what’s truly worth eating and experiencing, and skip what isn’t.

Guide Marcus holding a big fish caught off the wharf

Lead guide · ENTP · fishing

Marcus

A citizen guide who genuinely loves people — and fish. He couldn’t find a travel company that showed his beloved New Zealand properly, so he started Like a Local himself. Fun guaranteed, energy included.

Guide Kevin taking a selfie with a horse by a farm fence

Guide · eNFJ · photos and drones

Kevin

Marcus’s younger brother, an eNFJ with a small e. Loves photography and drones, and will do just about anything for a good flat white. Leave the travel photos to him.

We've done the planning for you.

We live in New Zealand, and only the roads we’ve travelled and chosen ourselves made it into these three courses. The plan stays the same, but we flex the order and rest stops around the day’s weather, the tides, and your group’s energy and tastes. Groups of 4–6 can even drive the stretches they choose.
